My First Semester

Like many people, people think that college is going to be hard and vigorous. Well, it is. My first semester went great, i learned a lot and getting all into gear. I met new people, made new friends and now I'm on my second semester. This semester does seem a bit harder but thats just a push for me to do better. I should be doing my physics and construction graphics homework right now but i just had a feeling i should blog =].

Best thing about First semester: Meeting new people, getting to know your surroundings, exploring the city, seeing new things and using your skills to do something in real life.

Bad things: it takes a while to get on gear but it depends on the person, money can be an issue if you don't know what your doing and the time to clean takes long but for some people, time to clean takes less time to mess the place up.

Tips on first semester: try to live clean, try to budget yourself, explore the city, eat healthy, and don't be lazy.

Classes

As of August 3rd, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, i have been driving to and from Boston for classes. Its not a big class, it only runs from 5:30 to 8:30. I do not receive any credit but i do get a head start to prepare my brain for the real college world which i start on September 7th, but i move in on September 2nd.

The classes have physics, math, and chemistry. it is a 12 day course so its only 4 weeks which is good. we also did a lab, it was interesting and fun. I just hope my college life is a bit more fun than this.

One of the best part about this program is that i made a few friends. Now i won't feel lonely when I'm in college. I am hoping to introduce them to my roommate so my roommate gets ahead with it too.

Everyone that is taking the course has a different major, but i noticed most of them was civil engineering, which is what I'm doing. I guess people still have interest in civil engineering when i thought it was really dying out. I think that no matter what you major, you are going to get a job because there is always a demand of something. Even if you majored in boiling eggs, you are specialer in that so people probably look for you in egg help. HAHA, never know.

One of the best thing about my college is that my college is next to other colleges and my friends are attending other colleges. It sounds fun, and I'm hoping it is.

Orientation Day

Wentworth institute of technology is where i will be attending this fall semester. I will be a freshman. But before that happens, we have to be welcomed by the orientation. Offered were 2 days in a 3 weekend amount of time, and i picked July 16 to 17.

Just like many students, i was nervous. I did not know anyone there and just went independent. It was time to get used to it just in case i didn't make any friends. As i arrived at Wentworth, the friendly Orientation leaders helped many families check in and show them to Baker hall, one of the few residence halls. Leaving Baker hall, my family went to Tansey Gym for a quick breakfast.

Arriving to Wentworth took a while due to traffic so our breakfast had to be a little quick. I had to rush to Watson Hall, which is almost like an auditorium. Arriving there, we all already had our name tag with our group color and leader name on the back. My group was red, it wasn't my favorite color, but that wasn't the point during that time of the matter. I sat down as the cheerful administrators began to welcome us to Wentworth. Once the welcome address was done, we were exited out of the Hall, just the students, by their group color. As luck would have it, my group came to be last.

Now it was just the students. We had to try to get to know each other. It wasn't said that that was the leaders plan, but it was clearly thought over when they kept trying to make us remember each others names. Soon, everyone just became friendly. After playing a few games, the Orientation leader announced that this year, the theme was "the hidden temple" so we were going to make a monkey, out of paper, that was already cut for us. This was so that once we make it, in a few years time, we can all look back and say "Wow, look how funny and creative we were".

While completing that task, there was a lot of free time. But also, many activities. These activities included all the games which was Frisbee, blog tag, soccer, and hand soccer. There was also an option to just chill and enjoy the talk with each other. My group was challenged by another group to play blog tag. Blog tag is just like tag, except the safe is having a group of 2 people, if one arrives in that group, one must leave from that group.

Then we played hand soccer, which was challenged by a different group. My team dominated. It became one of my favorite sports, especially due to the fact that I'm not really athletic. After the fun and games, it was time for "code of conduct" meeting. It was very clear and well said, and straight to the point. Don't do a crime, don't be at a crime, and you will have nothing to do with criminal charges. Then it was time for lunch, food was very good.

Soon after, it was time for another few meetings, some with professors and such. Finally we got to see our family again, this time it was a meeting about what to talk about with the family with the topic of college. With that done, the farewell was done with the parents, the parents left and we met our groups again. It was dinner time. Dinner was good.

While eating dinner, the Orientation leaders and the dean of the college actually put on "Evolution of Dance" live for us. The Dean did the robot, very calming for us students to see that our dean was pretty cool. Soon we met in our groups again and we had 4 choices of things to do. Find out the myths and facts of wentworth, find out what we can do around wentworth, find out what we can do around boston, and finally, find out what the students wished they knew before they actually got to college.

For my curiousity, i picked Myths and facts of wentworth and what to do in boston. So many activities in boston, it just went on and on. Myth and facts of wentworth was amazing too. I found out that Matt Leblanc who stars as JOEY in the show FRIENDS actually went to wentworth for one semester. It kind of made me feel proud.

Finally with that done, we had to meet with out group again. There was a few games in the gym, then it was an option of either watching a movie, playing in the gym, or chilling in the pool hall. I thought id go chill in the pool hall and see how it goes. I made a new friend there, i forget his name. Conversation took up the whole time. Soon, we had to check in and time to go to our dorm. I loved wentworth so far.

Until i got to the dorm. Specifically, Baker Hall. Many people are fine with changing infront of other people, i wasn't. I tried so hard to feel comfortable, took about an hour to take a 5 minute shower that night. It was time to chill now after the shower, i met up with my leader on the second floor and got my shirt to wear for the next day, and i headed back up to the 5th floor where i had to stay. It was way faster taking the stairs even though it was far from where i was, because the elevator was mocking a snail.

That night, it was hard to sleep, not many kids got sleep, but it was good enough to make us awake the next day. I got up early just incase the bathrooms were going to be all used up. I was ready by 6:30 and trying to find something to do in that time. Finally met with the group and had breakfast. After the breakfast, we had a few informational meetings again and it was time to play my last game of Hand soccer.

The Farewell was made by all the leaders and the dean. Wentworth is fun and great, except for Baker hall. I have summer classes starting august 3rd, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst and thats the only way its going to make a good day.
